Take Action to Fight Inflation & Raise Wages

While the cost of living has skyrocketed, Alberta has seen the lowest wage growth in the country. Employers are refusing to provide wage adjustments, and the government is refusing to tie minimum wage to inflation. While workers struggle to keep up, corporations are taking advantage of inflation by raising prices even higher, gouging consumers to generate excess profits.

Hardworking Albertans shouldn’t have to shoulder this alone while corporations rake in record profits.

It’s time to demand better. Together, we can tackle inflation, make sure wages keep pace, and protect working families from predatory profiteering.

Here’s how:

  1. Tie the minimum wage to inflation and promote cost-of-living adjustments in employment contracts and collective agreements.
  2. Reign in price gouging by establishing regulations and price controls in industries with high corporate concentration.
  3. Tax excess profits to redistribute surplus wealth and discourage predatory profiteering by big businesses.
  4. Make it easier for workers to unionize and negotiate collectively by implementing single-step union certification.

From gas to groceries, inflation is soaring to levels not experienced since the 1980s. Workers have shouldered the brunt of the fallout from economic, health, and social pressures. Not only that, workers pay far higher tax rates than corporations to keep our communities running.

The last three years have shown us that we need to have built-in protections, not only to keep people safe, but also to protect their financial health. We must stop corporations from taking advantage of working Albertans.

Right now, the Alberta Government is sitting on a record surplus. They have the resources to make life better for workers and to invest in the future of our communities. Together, let’s demand better.
